We are a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation set up to provide advocacy support for adults over 16 with learning difficulties who live within the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council area.

 

The first meeting of took place in August 2002 and was held under the auspices of Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society, an organisation providing services for people with learning disabilities. In November 2002 an independent advocacy project was created, building on the work of a previous advocacy project that had been administered under the umbrella of Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society. This move was intended to minimise 'conflict of interest' situations between a particular individual and the interests of someone else, or organisation.

To support (via a range of appropriate means) individuals and groups of people who are at risk of social exclusion and/or abuse, to make their views known and for those views to be acknowledged and valued by society and its institutions.

 

The Trust's objectives are

 

1. To provide independent advocacy support to individuals, groups of people, families and children in vulnerable and necessitous circumstances within the Stockport Borough Council area.
